Lyrics
Late at night, on the city street,
lost at home, vomit on the toilet seat,
I don’t wanna dull the pain,
I don’t wanna see that shit again.
I don’t wanna die, die on heroin,
I don’t wanna die, die on heroin.
I don’t wanna, spend my life on the floor,
I don’t wanna, see that shit no more,
I don’t wanna die, sucking on my own vomit,
I don’t need the drugs, the needle or the shit.
Give me the world and it’s fucking pain,
I don’t wanna heroin-soaked brain,
Give me your love, and give me a reason,
to leave behind the shit in the city prison.
I don’t wanna die, die on heroin,
I don’t wanna die, die on heroin.
Notes
- Another song we played with both 5-piece Uncle lineups.
- I’ve always loved “Heroin” songs. Heroin, Surfin’ on Heroin, Your Own Backyard, Needle & the Damage Done etc etc etc.
- This may have been song 4 or 5 written by the original Uncles. I remember writing the lyrics while lying on the floor in my Mericourt Rd 1-bedroom apartment in Hamilton, ON. I wrote it specifically as a lyric for the band.
- I think the December 4th, 1987 version from
Teaser’s is the best version. The band was driving, and except for my faux British Johnny Rotten imitation at the beginning, I sound ok. (Don’t ask me why I did that imitation. Not all decisions are necessarily the best decision.) - Full Disclosure: I have tried (at least once) the following drugs – marijuana, cocaine, LSD, methamphetamines, mescaline, ecstasy, magic mushrooms and probably others I cannot recall…BUT…I have NEVER tried heroin! You know why? Because I don’t want to die on heroin.
