I Talk To My Muse
“Variety Show” cassette, 1989 – Hamilton, ON
John Harvey, John Kinsella
Lyrics
I talk to my muse but he resists,
he tells me only silence exists,
the drunk and battered on the street
the starving masses in the heat,
they understand, life’s full of lies,
don’t believe that nobody dies,
everybody dies,
no God in Heaven
no Devil in Hell,
nothing exists but the silence of the wind.
Face down in a pool of beer
the apocalypse is almost here,
too much chaos in my brain
on my lung is a blood-red stain,
I understand life’s almost done,
don’t believe, try to understand,
understand my son,
no God in Heaven
no Devil in Hell,
nothing exists but the silence of the wind.
My muse passes away silently,
no one shouts or cries
no one cares
that my muse is dead,
no one cares
about the things he said,
my muse
my muse,
I talk to my muse
and I can hear him
shouting in the wind.
I understand, life’s full of lies,
don’t believe, that nobody dies,
everybody dies,
no God in Heaven
no Devil in Hell.

Notes
- This cassette is a bit of a “hot mess”, it’s raw, but there’s certainly energy to it. I’m proud JK and I did this and even went out “on the road” with our duo act. Oh man…those were quite the shows!
- I believe I wrote the lyrics a couple of years prior to the recording.
